Red Square Oil Pattern

Red Square is a 40-foot Kegel Landmark pattern with a 1.00 to 1 ratio. That is as flat as a pattern gets. There is essentially the same amount of oil in the middle as on the outside, so there is no built-in area at all. This is one of the hardest patterns Kegel makes.

On a true flat pattern, every board plays the same and the pocket is unforgiving. You will play straight up the lane and live and die by accuracy. Red Square exposes any flaw in your release and rewards a machine-like shot.

How to Play the Red Square Pattern

Straight Bowlers and Strokers

A flat pattern is the great equalizer, and a straight game handles it better than most. Play direct up the boards, keep your hook minimal, and repeat your shot. Accuracy is the whole game.

Mid-Rev Tweeners

Play the tightest, most controlled line you have. There is no area to swing into, so pick a target and hit it, making only the smallest moves.

High-Rev Crankers

A big hook has no edge here. Smooth your surface all the way down, play straight, and focus on hitting your target. Power means nothing without precision on a 1 to 1 ratio.

Difficulty and What to Expect

Red Square plays very hard. A 1.00 to 1 ratio means no area and a tight pocket on every shot. It is a pure accuracy test, and spare shooting is critical.
